Embracing the In Between

Hello from the Desert!

I am currently watching the sunset from a beautiful Airbnb my husband and I are staying at. We are enjoying the dry August desert heat, full of glowing orange and pink sunsets, and an otherworldly landscape.

This place is really fascinating to me. It’s so strange, almost like you’re on a different planet. The nights here are a different kind of dark, and the stars are so vivid and bright. It feels like you’re peering directly into space.

We’ve spent our days with no agenda and no expectations.

As we enter September tomorrow and close out August, I’m feeling the shift of the sun. It’s starting to get a little darker a little sooner, and it’s making me excited for the changing of seasons.

During these shifts, I’m often reminded of how much I enjoy change. And yet sometimes in life, I feel myself resisting it. Maybe not even resisting it, but almost fearing it or mourning what I’m losing, while forgetting to notice what I might be gaining.

It’s a shedding almost. Shedding and letting go.

It makes me reflect on the ever changing seasons of our lives. Our children getting older. Our parents aging. Ourselves evolving into different versions of who we are.

Each version I meet of myself, I welcome and approach with curiosity.

I’m learning to do that in my own fitness journey too. Learning to be patient and kind to myself as I move through different habits, seasons, and challenges with my health.

Because you’re showing up to the studio, I’m sure some of this resonates. We talk about it often. Just meeting yourself where you are right now.

Not hoping to be different. Not wishing to be like the person next to you. But instead, being patient with the person you are in this very moment. And not just patient, but wholeheartedly loving and accepting.

I think it’s in that space that we really learn to grow and change and evolve, just like the seasons.

Maybe this is a season where you’re meeting new versions of yourself. Or maybe you’re settling in and loving one that you’ve recently become.

Either way, I think the secret is to embrace it all.

The messy. The put together. The peaceful. The chaos of ourselves.

All of it.

Someone recently reminded me that things wouldn’t be so great if they lasted forever. That has really stuck with me.

As the sun starts to set in front of me here in the desert and the night sky begins to open up, I’m reminded that none of it would be so spectacular without the other.

And I think that goes for this version of you too.

The old one. The one you are right now. And the one you haven’t even met yet.

Keep walking in the door. Keep meeting yourself with love and gratitude. And if you haven’t yet, start embracing exactly who you are in this very moment.

Because why not?!

All my love,
Jess
