Staying Wildly Curious
Staying Wildly Curious
Wow!! August starts tomorrow, and I can hardly believe it. Time really does fly, doesn’t it?
We’re already getting ready for another school year, and in our house, our kids are heading into their senior year of high school. If you notice I’m not teaching morning classes on August 12, it’s because I’ll be spending the morning with them and sending them off for their last first day of school.
It feels like such a big milestone, and I know it will be here and gone before I’m ready. All I can do is hold on tight and feel grateful that I get to bear witness to their lives.
If you have kids heading into another school year, or if yours are already grown and you’re sitting on the other side of this with some wisdom, you probably know what I mean when I say each new phase brings so much joy and also a little grief. It’s conflicting!
I recently called my longtime therapist and said, “Remember me?! Yeah, I’m ready to come back.” I want to work through some of this while I’m feeling healthy and get ahead of it instead of waiting until I’m in despair. I guess I’m growing up too, huh?
Speaking of therapists, make sure you read all the way to the bottom for our client spotlight. You might just find a really awesome one! But seriously, shoutout to all the therapists helping to keep us sane. We all need them, and speaking from experience, I couldn’t navigate the big moments without mine.
This month, I keep noticing a theme around education and learning. I have a picture that used to hang in my old office, and I’m so glad I don’t have to sit in an office anymore and can type this from our beautiful studio instead. It says, “Have a mind that is open to everything and attached to nothing.”
I love it. To me, it means staying wildly curious and open to all possibilities. It reminds me that I will never fully arrive, because there is always something new to learn and another way to grow.
Learning was a huge part of my life growing up. My dad was a high school teacher for his entire career, and he taught me how to stay curious and keep learning. We have lunch dates a few times a month where we search for the best chicken sandwich around (shoutout to Belfare) and talk about all the things we’re learning. My dad and I are very close, and watching him as an educator my whole life was really special. I will always hold teachers near and dear to my heart.
That’s why free Pilates classes for teachers in August are officially becoming an annual tradition! I’ve included a few dates and details below, but if you’re a teacher and want to join us, or if you know a really great teacher, please reach out. I want to treat you to a little movement before the school year really gets going. It’s the way I get to honor you and thank you for all you do!
Speaking of teachers, we’re also bringing continuing education for Pilates instructors to the studio in September, with some incredible educators coming in to lead it. If you are a Pilates teacher or know some great ones, join us! This is not to be missed!
We’re also helping an instructor you’ve probably noticed living at the top of our Ritual Board for months. Zoe is almost finished with her certification, and we need your help getting her practice hours completed. Take a peek below to see how you can support her.
I’ve also hired two new instructors to join our already stacked team. They’re both amazing, and I can’t wait for you to meet them.
So, you see, educators are everywhere this month! It’s the theme I keep noticing.
My question for you is, what are you learning right now? What are you looking forward to learning? Tell me the next time you’re in. I can’t wait to hear all about it!
As always, my gratitude for you is endless. I feel like I’m living a dream when I get to be here with you every day. Thank you for being here with me!!
All my love,
Jess
