Frequently asked questions

General FAQs

  • Reformer Pilates is a full-body, low-impact workout designed to build strength, improve flexibility, and enhance balance—all while being incredibly kind to your joints. Using a spring-based machine called the Reformer, each class combines smooth, controlled movement with resistance, support, and precision. It’s a graceful yet powerful practice that leaves you feeling strong, aligned, and energized.

Pilates is more than just exercise—it’s a holistic movement method created to align the mind and body. Grounded in technique, intentional breath, and controlled sequences, it promotes core strength, postural alignment, and balanced musculature. Originally developed as a method of injury prevention and rehabilitation, Pilates is now embraced by athletes, health professionals, and anyone seeking sustainable, intelligent movement.

At The Reform Room, we believe movement is for everyone—no matter your age, experience, or what stage your body is in. Our approach is rooted in inclusivity, which is why Pilates is the perfect fit for our brand and our community. Whether you’re just starting out or deepening your practice, you belong here.

With consistent practice, the benefits go far beyond the studio: improved posture, deeper core stability, enhanced mobility, greater endurance, and a stronger connection to your body.

  • Pilates is rooted in the classical or contemporary Pilates method, created by Joseph Pilates. It follows a set of core principles—like breath, alignment, control, concentration, precision, and flow. At The Reform Room, our instructors are comprehensively trained, each with a minimum of 450 hours of education, mentorship, and practice. This ensures deep understanding of the method, anatomy, safety, and how to tailor the work to every body.

    What’s a “Pilates-inspired” workout then?

    • Pilates-inspired classes (like Lagree, BodyRok, Solidcore, etc.) often use similar-looking equipment, but they blend other fitness methods—like HIIT, strength training, or cardio bursts. These workouts can be great, but they don’t follow the original Pilates principles or teacher training standards.

    Why does training matter?

    • Pilates isn’t just movement—it’s mindful, intelligent movement. A well-trained instructor knows how to safely modify exercises, support injury recovery, and help you build real core strength and body awareness. Without that foundation, you might miss out on the transformative benefits Pilates was designed to deliver.

Is one better than the other?

    • Not necessarily—just different. We love that people are moving their bodies in ways that feel good. But if you’re looking for the authentic Pilates experience—rooted in education, breath, and alignment—The Reform Room is for you.

How can I tell if a studio teaches real Pilates?

    • Great question! Ask about the instructor’s training hours (450+ is the gold standard), look for language around the Pilates method, and notice the emphasis on breath, control, and form over fast-paced or high-intensity burnouts.

  • Yes, we do! We’re excited to offer new clients their first Reformer class for just $22, so you can dip your toes into the experience. Simply purchase your class through our website here!

  • Our reformer classes are truly for all levels. You will be offered options and modifications throughout class. If it’s your first class with us, please arrive 10 - 15 minutes early to get a briefing of our studio, equipment, and class flow.

  • We’re so excited for you to join us! For your first class, be sure to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during your workout. If you forget, no worries—we’ve got a hydration bar stocked with refreshing water and healthy post-workout beverages to keep you feeling great.

Grip socks are also required for all of our reformer classes. You can bring your own, or if you need a pair, we sell top-rated brands right here in the studio to keep you supported and safe during your practice.

We can’t wait to see you in class!
