This IS The Place
Wow. We are walking into June faster than I can even believe.
Sometimes time moves so damn fast I feel like I can barely keep my head on straight. Even more mind-blowing? We are approaching our one-year anniversary at The Reform Room on June 8th!
I honestly can't believe it.
When I finally made up my mind to go for it and open this place, I remember falling asleep every night daydreaming about it. What would it look like? How would it feel? More importantly, how would YOU feel when you walked through the doors? Would anyone even come?
I would wake up in the morning and it was the very first thing I thought about.
It kind of reminds me of that first drop when you're falling in love. You're obsessing. Daydreaming. Thinking about what could be. Will it work? Will it not? But there was something deep inside me that just knew. I knew I was following my heart. I knew I was doing the right thing.
Then it became one small step at a time.
Find a space.
Learn how to negotiate a commercial lease.
Figure out what to call it. (I went through dozens of names and probably drove my friends, and especially my husband, completely nuts saying them out loud over and over until one felt right.)
What should the logo look like? What colors feel like The Reform Room? Which reformers are the best? How can I customize them? What shape mirrors? Oval? Rectangle? Black frame? Gold frame?
And where am I supposed to find hand weights that don't look ridiculous? Why are they always neon green?
How can I make this place more sustainable? How can I find products that are clean, smell amazing, and don't leave clients breathing in a cloud of chemicals after class? What brands belong here? How many colorful lights can I squeeze into one studio because I love them? And how many plants before we officially become a jungle?
How do I find instructors who align with the values I'm trying to build?
(And wow, did we get lucky.)
The funny thing is, I planned every last detail. But the decisions didn't actually feel that hard because I wasn't trying to be anyone else. I was just being myself. Trusting myself.
I believed that if I built something with heart, it would somehow work out.
And if it didn't? At least I would spend the rest of my life remembering that one time I was brave enough to chase my dream with everything I had.
Now here we are, approaching a year.
And if I'm honest, it's hard for me to sit in this feeling. To really allow myself to feel proud. To feel grateful. To acknowledge what we've built together.
Opening The Reform Room will always be one of the greatest adventures of my life.
It made me feel brave.
It made me feel confident.
It reminded me that your entire life can change in a moment, and that's okay, because you'll figure out what comes next.
The Reform Room is no longer an idea.
It's no longer a gamble.
It's a place.
A place where we come together to celebrate each other. To move our bodies. To take 45 minutes out of a busy life and be present. To leave stronger than when we arrived, not just physically, but mentally too.
A place that reminds us we're capable of more than we think. Stronger than we give ourselves credit for.
As my daughter heads into her senior year and I think about the example I'm leaving behind as she prepares for adulthood, I feel incredibly proud.
Proud that she has watched a woman get knocked down and rebuild her life.
A woman who started over.
A woman who created something from nothing.
A woman who kept going when it would have been easier not to.
That's a lesson far bigger than anything I could ever say out loud.
So if you're finding yourself in a season of transition too, hear me when I say this:
You've got this.
You can rebuild at any moment.
You can start over.
You can choose a new direction.
Take it from me. It's possible.
And I truly have all of you to thank.
I'll never stop saying it. I'll never stop smiling so big my face hurts when you walk through that door. You believed in me before this place was what it is today. You continue to show up, support this small business, and trust us with your time, your energy, and your hard-earned money.
That is a gift I will never take for granted.
Thank you for helping turn a dream into something real.
Thank you for making The Reform Room what it is.
And thank you for being part of this story.
All my love,
Jess
